

NTCSA PEMBROKE – POSEIDON 400kV POWERLINE AMENDED FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (EMPr)
The National Transmission Company of South Africa (SOC) Ltd (NTCSA) (hereafter referred to as NTCSA) holds an Environmental Authorisation (EA Ref: 12/12/20/1439) for the proposed development of the Neptune – Poseidon 400kV Powerline, within the Buffalo City, Ngqushwa, Nkonkobe, Nxuba and Blue Crane Route Local Municipalities. Condition 11 of the EA requires that the EMPr submitted as part of the application for environmental authorisation must be amended and submitted to the Department for written approval prior to commencement of the activity. It must be noted that the NTCSA has split the construction implementation of the project into the following 2 phases:
- Greater East London Phase 3 – Construction of Neptune-Pembroke 400 kV powerline (currently under execution, construction activities commenced on 23 January 2023).
- Greater East London Phase 4 – Proposed Construction of Pembroke-Poseidon 400 kV powerline.
Environmental Impact Management Services (Pty) Ltd (EIMS), was appointed by NTCSA to undertake the tower-to-tower specialist walkdown for the Pembroke-Poseidon 400 kV powerline and to amend the EMPr with the results and specialist recommendations.
This notice informs all potential Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) that the amended EMPr is available for public review and comment.
