

Rustenburg Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd (RCM) (hereafter referred to as the applicant) has appointed Environmental Impact Management Services (Pty) Ltd (EIMS) as the Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to assist with undertaking the required application processes (including the statutory public participation), and to compile and submit the required documentation in support of applications for:
- Rectification application in accordance with Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA- Act 197 of 1998). Preliminary listed activities applicable to this project include: GN R983 (Listing Notice 1), Activity 27 and Activity 28 as well as GN R985 (Listing Notice 3), Activity 12.
- Water Use License (WUL) in accordance with the National Water Act (NWA- Act 36 of 1998) – Section 21(a), Section 21(c&i) and Section 21g.
Additional listed activities and/or water uses may be identified during the process.
The applicant wishes to submit a rectification application for their Rietfontein Processing Plant which was constructed and commenced operation without prior Environmental Authorisation (EA). The applicant also intends to construct various new stormwater management infrastructure at the site. Furthermore, it is the applicants intention that the proposed slurry and return water pipelines which will span between the plant and the main RCM mine to the north of the plant will also be included in the application.
The proposed project is located on Portion 23 and Portion 24 of the farm Rietfontein 338JQ, Rustenburg Local Municipality, Bojanala District Municipality, North West Province. The site is located approximately 12km southeast of Rustenburg and approximately 6km southeast of Kroondal. The approximate centre point of the site is 25°44’51.91″S, 27°21’55.56″E.

EIMS will be following the procedures defined in Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA- Act 197 of 1998, as amended) for undertaking a rectification application process. In accordance with Chapter 6 of the EIA Regulations, a public participation process will be undertaken. You are hereby invited to register and comment on the proposed project and applications.
